About Andrea
Andrea J. Medaris, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist, certified supervisor in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, Director of the Center for Relationships at Psychology Specialists of Maine, and President of EFT Maine. She has spent the past decade in clinical work with couples, particularly relationships shaped by trauma, disconnection, and recurring conflict. She writes The Emotional Logic, a newsletter making sense of love, conflict, and desire, and her first book, What You Wish For, argues that emotional security and passion aren't the tradeoff we've been told they are.
Things I love to talk about
You married the right person, and that's the problem.
Why the fit that creates the attraction becomes the fault line the fights run along, and why that's also the way through.
When the pursuing partner stops pursuing.
What it means when the person who has always fought for connection becomes quiet, detached, or simply too tired to keep trying.
The want to want.
The suffering nobody has words for: still loving your partner and grieving your own desire. What that feeling is actually telling you, and what it takes to feel something again.
The monkey at the window: why safety doesn't kill desire.
A famous experiment's forgotten second finding, and what it reveals about why desire fades in long-term love and what actually brings it back.
Why insight isn't the same as intimacy.
How couples can become fluent in therapy language while still avoiding the emotional contact that creates real change.
What Gilmore Girls reveals about relationships.
What pop culture can reveal about longing, emotional distance, and how people reach for connection without saying so directly.
